Our Biblical Purpose

To carry out the Great Commission in the spirit of the Great Commandment.

(Matthew 28:19,20; Matthew 22:36-39)

Our Church's Mission

Emboldened by God's love, the Brookside Wesleyan Church exists to summon people into an ever continuing and transforming relationship with Jesus Christ and his followers by Exalting God Joyfully, Experiencing God Passionately, Serving One Another Heartily, and Sharing Christ's Love Locally and Globally.

Our Ministry Values

  • People-Focused:  We can get caught up with doing so much "activity in ministry" that we miss the obvious needs around us that Christ desires to meet.  We must be people driven not program driven.   This  is  the  key  to becoming relevant to seekers.  Jesus Christ didn't die on the cross for church budgets, church programs, church attendance figures, offering plates or stained glass windows.  Jesus didn't die on the cross for acreage, square  footage  or  parking-lot  size.    Jesus died on the cross for people!   It  was  the  value  that  God  places  on  people  which  drove  Jesus  to the  cross  and  which kept  him  there through  all  the  pain  and suffering  that was involved.

  • Teamwork:  A house divided against itself cannot stand.  We all need each other and are most effective when we cooperate together toward the same end.  If we must disagree we will do it agreeably in order to keep the peace and unity in Christ, which is essential to the penetration of the gospel into our neighboring community.  It should be said of us, "Behold how they love one another."  We must always strive to keep the main thing the main thing and not get distracted by our own preferences at the price of missing our God-given mission.

  • Accepting:  We have to be a "safe place" for followers of Jesus...where we can be real, honest about our struggles and problems, and where we can get genuine help and support instead of condemnation.  We have to be a "safe place" for people who have not yet made a commitment to Jesus...where they can hear the truth of God's Word, work through their issues in making a commitment to Jesus, and can come to a decision point for Christ without feeling pressured, judged, threatened or hurried.

  • Service:  Every follower of Jesus Christ has at least on spiritual gift.  And if every follower of Jesus Christ has a spiritual gift, then each of us has an area of ministry for which God has gifted and designed us.  What this means is the God wants every follower of Jesus to use their lives to make a difference for eternity.

  • Effectiveness:  Anything worth doing is worth doing well and to the best of our ability with all of our available strength and resources.  As followers of Jesus Christ, the Bible calls us to a dedication to excellence and effectiveness (Colossians 3:23-24).  The reason for this is that we are serving the Lord Himself in everything we do, from the smallest task to the largest project.

Our Vision

The church we dream of is one which is spiritually healthy...a vibrant, vital, and victorious body of believers whose single-hearted fervor is to love God more than we love ourselves.  The church we dream of is one which is spiritually impacting...a vibrant, vital, and victorious body of believers whose single-hearted focus is to love others more than we love ourselves.

The church we dream of is dynamic and devoted.  All our activity is worth nothing unless we have the dynamics of Christ within us through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.  All our accomplishments are worth nothing unless we have the devotion of Christ to reach everyone that we can with the gospel.  To be such a force we must remain fervent in our love for God and focused in our love for others.

The church we dream of is a community of people who are committed to developing a vital, personal passion for Christ.  These are people who are Word-centered and who humbly surrender their lives to the Lordship of Christ.  They intentionally seek to reach out to the individuals around them offering momentary help for their temporal needs along with the lasting hope for their eternal need which is found only in Christ.

Our vision is grounded in our mission, but it addresses what God's calling is for us as a church in this specific time and place.  We each need to be growing in our faith as we also share our faith beyond our church family.

Our vision is one of "Widening the Circles of Christ's Love" in our hearts and lives, in our church and community, and throughout the world as we are "Deepening Our Relationship and Broadening Our Impact."  To our church this will mean...
